About MeBabies and small children were always wrapped up warmly before central heating was commonplace. Babies particularly wore layers of underpinings beneath their long robes. The bodices were frequently quilted to increase warmth. The Liberty Bodice, a 1920s innovation also kept the child warm and was worn well into the 1950s. Some even had loops to attach knickers, guaranteeing a draught free childhood. And to ensure warm legs, hand knitted leggings were worn by toddlers in the 1920s.
