About MeOval badge with a pierced design of a cross suspended from a red black and white ribbon. The cross has the letter "A" in the centre and an imperial crown on top. the edge of the badge is inscribed "QUEEN ALEXANDRA'S IMPERIAL MILITARY NURSING SERVICE".

The Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service was founded on 27 March 1902 by Royal Warrant and replaced the Army Nursing Service (ANS) and the Indian Nursing Service (INS). They were named in honour of Queen Alexandra. They would later become Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Medical Nursing Corps.

Queen Alexandra designed the badge herself and it was approved by her husband King Edward VII. The letter A for Alexandra and the use of the Danish cross show her personal link with the new service (Queen Alexandra was a Danish princess).
