About MeThis sculpture is based on the character Shere Khan from The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. The sculptor of this bronze was the artist Phyllis Mary Bone who spent a great deal of her career as a sculptor of animals. At sixteen Bone entered the New College of Art in Edinburgh and by 1918 had gained a diploma in sculpture. She then studied in Paris with the animal sculptor Edouard Navellier (1865 - 1945). Bone has illustrated the tiger prowling with its body low to the ground as if it were about to attack an unsuspecting victim. The movement of the animal and its menacing stance reminds us how evil the character that Shere Khan was.
