About MeThis piece of decorated oak is from a casket or item of furniture.
The decorative technique used is chip-carving. Geometric roundels with petals were traced on the surface of the plank with a pair of dividers and the design was then 'chipped' in with a chisel. This produced a characteristic V-shaped gouge.
