In 1865 Alexander began the statue of Queen Victoria for Aberdeen's Queen's Cross. Following his suicide, it was later finished by his brother William for exhibition at Dublin Museum.
Highland Mary is seated on a rock reading a book. Although she is meant to be a 'Highland lassie,' she has very small and refined features and is clothed in classical garments.
