About MeAlbert Bruce-Joy studied in London, Paris and Rome and visited the United States on two occasions. He was one of the most successful sculptors of the Victorian era. Sentimental, narrative subjects such as this one proved enormously popular and his bronzes were marketed through the well known furniture shop, Waring & Gillow of Oxford Street, London.Bruce-Joy used two different models for this sculpture - the head was modelled from that of the noted beauty, Miss Kitchen, who was the daughter of the Dean of Durham and the figure from the body of Miss Connie Gilchrist, who later became Countess of Orkney.
