About MeThis photograph, dating from around 1925, shows Aberdeen Fish Market at Commercial Quay with trawlers tightly packed along the quayside.

Fish has been sold in Aberdeen since at least the 14th century. Previous market locations included the Castlegate and Shiprow. As the trawling industry took off in the 1880s, there was a need for a market closer to the quays where fish was landed.

The Commercial Quay market opened at 6am on 20 May 1889. The market was so successful that a number of extensions were required over the years. It was completely rebuilt in the early 1980s: there are daily auctions with fish landed at other ports often sent to Aberdeen for sale.
