About MeRMS St Helena was the last ship built in Aberdeen before the Hall Russell yard closed. It provoked controversy at the time as the vessel was well over budget when completed. It was originally envisaged as a Royal Mail, supply and passenger ship for the South Africa St Helena/Ascension Island link,. The vessel was retired in 2018 when the airfield finally opened on St Helena after many delays. St Helena was then converted to a floating armoury for anti piracy duties around the Persian Gulf and Horn of Africa and renamed MNG Tahiti. The vessel was again sold in late 2018, regaining its old name of St Helena. It now acts as a hub for electric racing car events and transports the vehicles to various locations. .
