About MeMcBey depicts T.E. Lawrence in familiar Arab dress. The portrait sitting took place on one of Lawrence's last days in Damascus and McBey recounted that there was "a constant procession of Sheiks kneeling before him and kissing his hands with tears in their eyes". He met Lawrence only once after the war and although they planned to spend the evening together they failed to meet. Lawrence twice came to McBey's flat but was reluctant to face the strangers he could hear talking behind the closed door.
