About MeView over railway yards at Kittybrewster, 1930. This railway station and marshalling yard (first opened 1854) was originally part of the heart of the Great North of Scotland Railway. From here the GNSR sent its trains north and west. The company's lines became important economic and social links for villages throughout the North East of Scotland. Whether it was Kemnay on Donside finding an economical way of transporting granite to Aberdeen or the small fishing villages on the coast supplying fish to markets in England, the railway was a lifeline. At the time the photograph was taken GNSR had been absorbed into the London and North Eastern Railway, part of the"grouping" of 1923. Today, all that remains to remind us of this once important yard and station is the line to the north, Inverness and beyond.
