About MeThis pottery face would have decorated a green-glazed jug. It was made in Aardenburg in Belgium in the medieval period.

The jug was made from orange clay which had been covered with a white slip (a thin mixture of clay and water) to show up more vividly the green glaze in which the jug was coated.

The potter would have pressed the side of the jug into a mould with her/his hand to create this face. No other bits of the jug were found, and it is possible that the owner of the jug kept the face for some time after the jug had broken.
