About MeCecil Collins has used gouache or 'poster paint' for his painting of a mother and child. Gouache is a thick, opaque form of water-colour and is a favourite medium for artists working on paper. Although it does not have the transparency of pure water-colour, it is easier to use, allowing for corrections or changes.Collins has used the technique of wax resist. He has first applied clear wax to the surface of the paper. The water-based paint does not adhere to the wax, allowing the wax drawing to show through the painted surface.
