About MeCarl Ritter von Ghega (1802-60) was born in Venice and gained a doctorate in mathematics at the age of only 18. He followed a career in civil engineering, specialising in the construction of roads and railways. On the reverse of the banknote which bears his portrait is a view of a viduct at Semmering, built to his design.
