About MeJosef Herman was born in Poland but came to Britain in 1940, just after the outbreak of the Second World War. He settled first in Glasgow but then moved to Wales where Welsh miners became the focus of his work.
Hermann gave his figures a heroic quality. He chose to depict men at work, giving this subject of human toil dignity and nobility
