About MeRoy Lichtenstein was one of the foremost artists of the American Pop Art Movement. In the 1960s he made a series of paintings featuring characters from cartoons and gum wrappers. The paintings were super-sized versions of cartoon images. Using coloured dots, Lichtenstein even makes reference to the colour printing process used to print cheap comic books. He often included speech bubbles. Here an unseen character on the left exclaims, "SWEET DREAMS, BABY" but the action word "POW" gives this print its title.
