About MeHall Russell became part of the state owned British Shipbuilders in 1977, and began producing a series of patrol craft destined for the Royal Navy. This included corvettes and vessels like RMAS Torch, A141. This proved eventually to be the yards downfall. The Conservative government embarked upon privatisation in 1986 Hall Russell was classed as a military yard and subsequently found it difficult to gain orders and closed 5 years later.
RMAS Torch and its sister vessel Tormentor were some of the last ships built in Aberdeen.
