About MeOil worker study of torso and head for Piper Alpha Memorial by Sue Jane Taylor.
The oil and gas platform Piper Alpha was destroyed by an explosion in July 1988 and 167 men were killed. The final memorial stands in Hazlehead Park in Aberdeen. This is one of three figures incorporated in the memorial representing the humanity and universality of those who work offshore.

This particular figure shows a young worker kitted out in a survival suit that all offshore workers must wear whilst in transit to and from the offshore installations. Similar suits are worn by workers should the requirement be to evacuate the platform if an incident occurs.
More About Me

Taylor had visited the Piper Alpha platform a year before the 1988 disaster and used images from the trip to design the memorial in Aberdeen's Hazlehead Park.
