About MePair of silver goblets made by Aberdeen silversmith William Jamieson. They were presented to John Law, an advocate in the city in 1817. Law was the first Clerk to the Aberdeen Shipmaster Society and served between 1799 and 1817. It was Law who successfully drew up the new application for a new Royal Charter of Incorporation for the Society in 1801. The Society was very well off in the early decades of the 19th century, and their investment in land and property over the previous fifty years allowed it hold sumptious banquets as well as make lavish gifts such as these goblets.
