Bound in golden leather with an embossed pattern of diamonds over the main part of the cover. The 2 front corners have a scrolled metal bracket over each and the monogram 'M.S.B' is embossed above the lower bracket. The book is held closed with a clasp which is turned to tighten it.
The flyleaf is of dark green parchment overprinted with a small gold pattern. Each page is a thick mount, many with coloured floral painting around the photo window and all with gilt edging.
The photos seem to have been taken in many different studios, some in Aberdeenshire and others such as Manchester and Norfolk.
