About MeThis was one of the many attractions to be found near the Beach. Aberdeen was the Silver City with the Golden Sands and put considerable effort into attracting visitors to its beach . By the 1930s visitors could use the Bathing Station, dance at the Beach Ballroom, be entertained at the Beach Pavilion or if they felt a bit more adventurous try their hands at some of the rides at the amusement park, locally known as the carnivals. There they could have an exhilarating ride on switchback (destroyed by fire in 1940), swing high in the air on the chair-o-planes, drive around a speedway track or have a more sedate experience in these boats. Mark Codona was the entrepreneur who pushed hard to make the carnivals a major attraction.
