About MeLike his contemporary Edgar Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec was particularly attracted to the instantaneity of subjects representing modern life - most notably, the cafe-concert and the racetrack. As with his human subjects, Lautrec gives an individual character to the animals in his work through the power of his drawing.

'The Jockey' was one of the last lithographs produced by Lautrec and was made for an intended set of racetrack subjects. Although he made five prints, the artist's health did not allow him to complete the set.
