About MePrior to the exploitation of the North Sea, gas production and power generation in Britain was almost exclusively derived from coal.
When this leaflet was produced in the mid 1970's, the UK had been forced to seek seek large loans from the IMF in order to stabilise the economy. This coincided with many of the major North Sea oil and gas fields beginning to flow ashore.

There were huge campaigns to get the public to switch to the 'odourless' North Sea gas in their homes to help the national economy. This meant conversion of burners in all gas appliances in the country. It was in this context that this leaflet was produced, trumpeting the benefits environmentally and economically of changing to natural gas.
