About MeOpened on 2 July 1881, the new Victoria Bridge connected Torry closely to Aberdeen over the new course of the River Dee. This helped a large fishing township to grow up on the South side of the River. The River Dee’s new channel was called the ‘Cutting’. This painting shows boats hauled ashore there. The closest is the Morning Star of Downies village, a line boat with a five-man crew owned and skippered by John Wood.
