About MePatrick Lewis Forbes was born in Calcutta in 1860, but moved c.1870 with his family to Aberdeen where he attended Aberdeen Grammar School and later Aberdeen University. He moved to Hampstead, London, in 1892 when he married Sarah Mildred Leckie, the daughter of James Blyth Leckie, partner in the Assam Tea Company with the artist's father, Alexander Forbes. Patrick Forbes and his wife had two sons; Patrick Leckie Forbes and Alexander Stewart Forbes. P L Forbes later lived at Worthing and died there 24th October 1939. Forbes exhibited one painting at the New Watercolour Society in 1893 and had eleven works displayed at the Royal Academy between 1902 and 1914. Whilst living at Hampstead Forbes was employed by the Architectural Association to teach watercolour painting and he was the secretary to the Hampstead Art Society.
