About MeThe Great North of Scotland Railway officially opened its first section of line, to Huntly, on the 12th of September 1854 was four years after the railway arrived in Aberdeen from the south. This was the begining of a system which was to extend north and west of the city. Eventually the company owned lines which went out to Ballater on Deeside, to Alford on Donside, Boat of Garten on Speyside, to the fishing villages on the coast north of Aberdeen and up to Lossiemouth on the Moray Firth. In 1923 the GNSR was taken into the amalgamation London and North Eastern Railway.
