About MePaperweight showing the layout of the Brent Field in the North Sea with its subsea pipelines. It also shows the Brent Spar which was an oil storage and loading facillity. By 1995 the facillity was seen as surplus to needs by the operators Esso/Shell. Their original plan to simply sink it in deep water sparked huge protests in 1995. This prompted tighter regulation and ensured that decommissioning was more tightly regulated and that the redundant installations be dismantled and recycled or reused elsewhere.Brent Spar was eventually used as part of a new harbour at Stavanger.
