About MeSusie Cooper started work as a paintress at the Stoke-on-Trent company of A.E. Gray & Co. in 1922. Although Grays produced stylish modern designs, she was not content to remain with the firm as she wanted to have full control of the design process – both shape and surface pattern. She left in 1929 to establish the Susie Cooper Pottery – at that time a bold move for a woman. In 1950 she began to design and manufacture bone china, establishing a new business entitled Susie Cooper China Ltd. In 1958 this company merged with RH and SL Plant and in 1966 both companies were acquired by the Wedgwood Group.
