About MeIn total hip replacement the cup-shaped acetabulum is elarged using a reamer (either a hand reamer or a low-speed power tool can be used) Enough cartilage is removed to deepen the acetabulum to hold a acetabular cup that will mate with the head of the artificial femur. Cavities around the cup can be filled with bone graft.
