About MeThis is an example of a "standard" pattern Cordeaux type insulator. The function of the insulator was to ensure that copper telegraph wires were insulated and that the electrical signals they carried were not shorted at point of support on telegraph poles. The ceramic material with a leadless glaze gave a high degree of insullation. The telegraph system was a central safety feature of the railway network. It allowed companies to communicate the state of signals, the movement of trains and other information across a widely spread network.
