About MePhoebe Anna Traquair was a leading exponent of the Arts and Crafts movement in Scotland. This work illustrates the Last Judgement and is inscribed with the third verse of William Blake's introduction to his 'Songs of Experience'. Twelve roundels describe the First Coming, with scenes from Genesis. These scenes prefigure the Second Coming, when all mankind is called to Judgement, depicted along the top of the composition. One of the chosen is crowned with flowers. To either side figures in white shrouds await their own judgement. Some of these are identifiable as portraits of artists, including the Pre-Raphaelites D.G. Rossetti, William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones, whose work Traquair admired greatly.
