About MeThis image for a stereogram negative of 1861 was one of the early works by G W Wilson which brought him from the market for Scottish images to a larger national and international market. HMS Revenge was one of a number of naval photographs taken by Wilson when he visited Plymouth and Porstmouth.
The image appears to be one of a set of images taken from the deck of HMS Trafalgar and may be one of the earliest photographic images taken at sea.
An album of photographs by Washington Wilson was collated by Prince Albert between 1860-1861 containing similar images.
In the foreground is the Portsmouth chain ferry, one of the vessels in the rear may be HMS Victory.
