About MeSir George Reid, a native of Aberdeeen, was one of Scotland’s most accomplished and successful artists of the nineteenth century. He was especially highly regarded as a portrait painter.

This is an interior view of St Machar's Cathedral, painted in 1865, before the extensive restoration of the church which was to change the interior entirely. The woman on the stairs is Reid's mother, in the pew is seated James Cassie RSA, the artist's sister Agnes (Mrs Watson) and George's brother Archibald Reid ARSA RSW as a boy.
