About MeThis pail or "slop" bucket was used to contain food scraps left over from preparing meals. Scraps went into the slop pail which was covered with the lid to minimise odours and deter flies until it could be taken outside - the contents were probably fed to the pigs. Hence the term "slop" bucket.
