About MeThe circular tombs of ancient Rome held a fascination for many artists. In this particular case, the upper part of the tomb had been destroyed and Medieval battlements, erected by the Caetani family who held it as a fortress in the 13th century, crown the upper edge.Giles painted an oil of this subject in 1853, based upon the sketches that he made in Italy.
