About MeBrian McLaughlin studied at Glasgow School of Art. This painting was part of a series of self-portraits which the artist created for his Diploma show during his final year at art college.

Aberdeen Art Gallery has always held a special interest in collecting artists' portraits and self-portraits. This interest continues the tradition established by Alexander MacDonald who bequeathed his collection of more than ninety artists portraits and self-portraits to the Art Gallery in 1901
