About MeThe arcaded shopping market was designed by Archibald Simpson and was built 1840-1842. Forty years after its opening the centre was destroyed by fire. It was rebuilt, however, in 1971 the historic structure was replaced by a far less imposing piece of architecture albeit still a centre for shops.
