About MeSquare glass plate negative with black and white image of the rail bridge across the River Tay.

The image shows two pairs of piers, the old piers are in the front and slightly to the right new piers in this image. There is a floating platform between the new piers with a metal scaffold. This scaffold appears to be supporting a girder section. There are men on the platform, on the scaffold and at the top of the right hand pier.

There is a inscription along the extreme lower right edge of the image reading "No. 58 (unclear) NEW TAY VIADUCT 100' (unclear) GIRDERS TRANS [illegible]". The glass below the image is inscribed by hand "Tay Bridge".

Granite from Corrennie Quarry was reputedly used in the pillars for the Tay Bridge.
