About MeFrancis Convery has been a lecturer in Drawing and Painting at Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen since 1987. This work depicts Gray's School itself, and the various people who appear in it are portraits of staff and students, including Convery himself on the far right. Other tutors include Joe Fan, Robbie Bushe, Sandy Fraser, Gordon Bryce and Joyce Cairns (from lower left to right).

In this picture Convery has attempted to comment on the traditions of the Scottish Art School: that of being studio based, with a strong figurative tradition. The studio contains the various elements of painting which are considered important: drawing, colour, composition still life, landscape etc brought together as fragments of the whole
