About MeSandy Fraser was a lecturer at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen for more than thirty years until his retirement in 1997. After experimenting with abstraction in the 1970s he returned to figuration and an increasing realism in the following decade.Fraser's paintings are not specifically narrative but are open to different interpretations. He uses a combination of influences drawn from an eclectic mix of sources: for example, Saskia is the name of his niece but the model is his wife. The stripe of Saskia's skirt is taken from the tunic of a guard in Rembrandt's famous painting 'The Nightwatch'. The cat belongs to Fraser's neighbour.
More About Me
This painting is a family affair. Saskia was the name of Fraser's niece, though the model is his wife. Even the cat belonged to his neighbour!
