About MeAlthough British, Adam McEwen now lives in New York, where his work is inspired by the concepts of celebrity and stardom.Whilst still living in Britain, McEwen worked as an obituary writer for the Daily Telegraph. He put his expertise in writing obituaries to good use when he created a series of enlarged, fake obituaries of living celebrities such as Bill Clinton, Nicole Kidman, Jeff Koons and in this example, the actor Macaulay Culkin.
Such images are disturbing because they function as memento mori. They are at once both shocking and humorous reminders of the transience of life and proved to be a hit when they were included in the 2006 Biennial Art Fair at New York's Whitney Museum.
