About MeFaux tortoiseshell ornamental diadem-style hair comb, the top of which is attached to a partial tiara style diamante band via a brass hinge.More About Me
Although the use of real tortoiseshell was only banned in the 1970's, jewellers had long used substitutes to meet demand. This comb is likely made of cowhorn died with a mixture of potash, tree sap, and quicklime. Since both bone and hair are made of keratin, this mixture was also used as a hair dye.
