William Smith Bell ran an antiques business from 56-58 Bridge Street, Aberdeen. In 1943 he purchased Friendville, a manor house in Mannofield. He renovated this property with the architect and historian Fenton Wyness as an advisor. In 1944 his son John was killed in action.
