A Scottish artist who studied in Glasgow then based on the East coast, at Catterline.

Friend of Joan Eardley and they had a mutual influence on each other's work, though initially he was more successful, she ultimately, became more famous. Like her, influenced by German Expressionism

Best known for flower paintings, but also painted portraits and, as here, fantasies and religious works, often in homage to Eardley.
