Entry from The Granite Men by Jim Fiddes (History Press, 2019):

William McKay & Son, City Granite Works, Holland Street

William McKay was born into a farming family in Rhynie but he became a stone mason. He went into partnership with David B. Morren, first appearing in the Directory in 1908-09 as McKay & Morren, 34 Holland Street, shortly after they expanded into No. 32. Later they occupied 32-62 Holland Street. By 1913 the two men had gone their separate ways with Morren forming David Morren & Co., and McKay being joined by his son Walter J. as William McKay & Son. William McKay was a Baillie and was also twice President of the AGMA, from 1926-27 and 1929-30. He did resign in 1927 in a row over the authority of the directors, but was re-elected as director almost immediately. Walter succeeded him and continued in the firm until his death in July 1955. His son, William J. McKay took over and was President of the AGA in 1974. He died in 1977 when his two sons took over. In 1983 they merged with John Fyfe but the name was still retained.
