Providence

David "Pip" Watson skippered the sailing drifter Providence at the herring fishing. these big, broad-beamed Fifies made up a large part of the herring fleet on Scotland's east coast between 1870 and the early 1900s. The herring fishermen from the Firth of Forth often sailed to other areas for the great summer herring fishing and well over a hundred Kirkcaldy registered boats like the PRovidence fished from Aberdeen Harbour in July and August during its heyday as a herring station.
