Stuart DevlinGeelong, Australia, born 1931

Stuart Devlin, an Australian by birth, came to England in 1958 when he won a scholarship to study silversmithing at the Royal College of Art, London, with Professor Robert Godden. By 1965 he had established a substantial workshop in London and a Gallery showroom in Conduit Street. He is arguably one of the greatest post-war silversmiths, and one of the few practising silversmiths to be elected Chief Warden of the Goldsmith Hall. In 1982 he received a Royal Warrant.

Devlin is renowned for his elegant and distinctive tableware, often combining beaten silver with parcel gilt. His forms are forceful and precise with a commanding use of abstract textures, seen in the stems of these goblets.
