Re-framing the Collection
Originally founded by George Keith, Earl Marischal as a protestant alternative to King's College (though by 1837 all earlier buildings on the site had been removed). George Keith and Marischal College both have connections to chattel slavery (see Club, 47 Marischal Street).

In  David  Alston’s  Slaves  &  Highlanders  (2021),  Alston  reports  that  prior  to  1834,  Marischal College  educated  at  least  82  students  that  are  recorded  as  having  come  from  the  Caribbean (Jamaica,  Barbados,  Grenada,  Guyana,  Tobago,  Dominica,  St.  Vincent,  St.  Kitts and St. Croix).
