Eric Ravilious began his training at Eastbourne College of Art where he received a scholarship to study design at the Royal College of Art in London. During his career he worked as an illustrator, a wood-engraver and a designer of furniture, glass and pottery. Yet it was in the art of watercolour that he excelled and he was amongst a handful of artists who were largely responsible for the revival of the watercolour medium in Britain during the twentieth century.
