Miss Catherine Jane Taylor Gatt

Miss Catherine J.T. Gatt competed her general trainign at Woolmanhill in 1936 and midwifery in Glasgow in 1937. After qualifying she spent some time in Birmingham and London.

At the outbreak of World War 2, Miss Gatt was called upto the Territorial Army Nursing Service and served with the 15th Scottish General Hospital in Cairo. Later she was transferred to the 3rd General Hospital and then to the 64th General Hospital. Following the war, she worked in the West Middlessex Hospital before returning in 1947 to the Royal Infirmary where she remained until her retirement in 1973.

During her time at the Infirmary she was Ward Sister in Wards 10 and 5, and latterly Departmental Sister in the Medical Block. While in Ward 5 she showed great kindness and understanding to all sick staff and will long be remembered for her efficient guidance.

Miss was a quietly efficient person in all her undertakings - popular and well respected by patients and colleagues - always maintaining friendships once formed. Besidesgardening and reading, her hobbies included painting, golf, and an active participation in National Trust activities. She bore with great fortitude the discomforts and increasing pain of what was to prove a fatal illness. Miss Gatt will be remembered and sadly missed by her family and numberous friends.
