Ronald Herbert Johnson
Ronald Herbert Johnson died about 25 years ago (written in January 2003) aged 58 years. Possible date of birth, 1920 in Newcastle. This would give year of death as 1978.
However in his notebook for 1933, he writes for 29 November, 'Birthday, 20 today'. This would suggest a date of birth in 1913, rather than 1920. Possibly, he died in the early rather than the later 1970s, if he did die at age 58.
Educated at Robert Gordon's College in Aberdeen. The information which has been handed in (notebook etc) must have been accumulated when he was a schoolboy.
However, some of the 1933 notes suggest he was working in the drawing office at the Alexander Hall shipyard rather than at school, while compiling these notes.
He became a naval architect - probably qualifying at Newcastle. Married in Aberdeen to Barbara Reid. He was sent by the Admiralty to Bath and then to Falmouth dock which later was partly privatised. His papers about different types of steels have been given to someone else. He founded the Mercedes Benz Club of Great Britain in 1952 when he was in Falmouth.
